Description

HRD (High Rate Discharge) detects an explosion in equipment at an early stage by means of highly sensitive sensors and suppresses it effectively by applying an explosive suppressant.

The parameters of the dust/air mixture will change as soon as an explosion occurs. Highly sensitive sensors react to changes in pressure and temperature and transmit an alarm signal to the controller. This triggers the activation of the HRD cylinders in the potentially explosive area. This prevents the development of a secondary explosion, which usually leads to devastating consequences.

The main elements of the hrd system:

    1. Detectors consisting of a sensor, a sensor and a contactor. They continuously monitor and register the occurrence of an explosion in the process equipment and transmit a signal to the control centre (controller). Depending on the operating conditions the hrd system is equipped with optical sensors reacting to infrared radiation or pressure sensors.
    2. CONEX controller. This is the control centre that processes the signals from the detectors and transmits the commands for activating the HRD containers with the explosive liquid.
    3. HRD cylinder (tank) with extinguishing agent. When an explosion occurs and is detected, a pressure generator is actuated, which releases the safety device and opens the opening in the valve mouth. Compressed gas is used to release an explosive suppressant into the process equipment in order to prevent or suppress an explosion. As a result, the pressure is reduced to a safe level and an accident does not occur. The process takes no more than 60 ms. The HRD tank nozzle is telescopic and covered with a rupture disk. Depending on the operating conditions the diaphragms can be made of stainless steel or Teflon. When an HRD cylinder is activated, the flow of explosive suppressant pushes the nozzle inside the equipment. This design eliminates impact on the process during normal operation and protects against contamination.

Advantages

    1. Suppresses explosions quickly – no more than 60 ms elapses between detection and application of the suppressant. Explosion products do not escape from the equipment.
    2. Easy to assemble – installation consists of only two steps, according to ready-made drawing sets and assembly instructions.
    3. Easy to maintain – we will provide a detailed instruction manual, describing the frequency of all operations. The customer’s employees are only required to visually check the cleanliness and integrity of the components and check the pressure on the HRD cylinders monthly.
    4. Can be applied to most technological processes at storage and processing facilities of vegetable raw materials.
    5. Can be installed without changing the design of existing technological equipment.
    6. Can be used in open areas and enclosed spaces.
    7. Active components (HRD cylinders) are easy to replace after use.
Technical features

The HRD system uses a DETEX type pressure detector as well as LUMEX 1 and LUMEX 3 type optical infra-red detectors.

The CONEX control centre is available in two-zone, four-zone, six-zone or eight-zone versions. It features a system status display and service mode switches. The integrated rechargeable battery guarantees at least 4 hours of autonomous operation in the event of power failure.

The HRD tank uses ABC fine extinguishing powder called FUREX 770, SODA BICARBONA, TROPOLAR FORTE etc.

Installation

Detectors and HRD-capacitors (active elements) are installed on the process equipment. Mounting is by means of adapters, receivers, holders, flanges, etc. Documentation with drawings is included to help you understand the mechanical assembly.

In the second step, the cabling is connected, the system is configured and parameters are set. After this, the system is put into operation. The system is handed over and the customer’s staff receives appropriate induction training. The delivery documentation includes a section on “Electrical equipment” which will help at this stage.

We will hand over to the customer:

  • Operating instructions in Russian;
  • Set of assembly drawings;
  • Assembly instructions;
  • Certificate of conformity for TP 012 / 2011.
Maintenance

A detailed user manual in Russian is included in the scope of delivery. On the basis of this, the customer draws up his own instruction manual in which he describes the action to be taken by the personnel.

Technical maintenance of the HRD barrier consists in permanent optical and visual inspection for cleanliness, mechanical integrity of all components. Once a month, the following actions must be carried out:

  • Maintenance of the pressurised air supply unit for blowing out the optical detectors, if any;
  • Monitoring of the operating pressure on the HRD cylinder pressure gauges.

All faults are reported to ATEX.CENTER by the customer.

The hrd barrier is serviced at the intervals specified in the operating manual:

  • once every 6 months – checks of HRD system and/or HRD barrier (control units, detectors, HRD receptacles);
  • once a year – checks of HRD receptacles, nozzles, extinguishing medium and its distribution, pipes;
  • Every 3 years – replacement of the internal accumulator in control units (batteries), replacement of the HRD activator;
  • every 10 years – pressure test of HRD receptacles in accordance with the applicable statutory regulations.
